Rayne wasn’t quite sure if she could call it her garden. It wasn’t located on her property, and she hadn’t been the one to plant anything originally. From what she had gathered, Adrianna had started it on a whim during her fourth year of medical school but had barely been home enough to see her family once her residency had started, much less to take care of a few strawberry and raspberry plants. Sarah had taken over it afterwards only to make sure Adrianna didn’t feel guilty about ‘ruining a piece of the backyard’, but hadn’t been able to do much more than keep the plants alive for a few years.

Rayne had to give them both credit. She had no doubt that Adrianna would have found a way to make a small garden flourish, but she hadn’t had the time. Even now, with her residency, it was rare for Adrianna to be home for more than eight to twelve hours at a time. And Sarah... Rayne was simply impressed that she had the remembered to keep the garden alive for as long as she had. She loved that woman, no doubt about it, but Rayne would be the first to admit that Sarah was prone to bouts of time where a goldfish had a better attention span.

Once Rayne had moved into the city, it had all changed. It didn’t take long for her to lament to Sarah that she missed having a place with grass and sunshine that wasn’t Central Park or some other public area. The next day, Sarah had dragged her to the townhouse and the (fenced in, incredibly small) back yard that came with it. Rayne had fallen in love with it immediately.

If she had her way, the entire plot would be covered in plants; fruits, vegetables, trees, flowers. Anything she could get to bloom. But, it wasn’t technically her yard, and Andy had demanded that most of it be left bare for a place for Chloe to play. She had kept quiet and only smirked when the three year old insisted on helping her Aunt Rayne in the garden instead of playing with the multitude of outside toys her fathers had bought her.

So, maybe it wasn’t her garden and it wasn’t her land. Technically, they weren’t even her plants, though she damn well made sure that she got the first pick of the berries and other fruit when they were ready to harvest. None of it may be hers, but if she’s going to put her blood, sweat, and tears into it all, than she fully believes that she should get the absolute best out of it.

And that was the important part.
